72. Akademi Ödülleri

Sinema Sanatları ve Bilimleri Akademisi (AMPAS) tarafından verilen ve 1999'da vizyona giren filmleri ödüllendiren 72. Akademi Ödülleri töreni 26 Mart 2000'de Los Angeles'taki Shrine Oditoryumu'nda saat 5.30'da başladı. Törende AMPAS , 23 kategoride Akademi Ödüllerini (genellikle Oscar olarak anılır) verdi. Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde ABC tarafından yayınlanan tören, karı koca yapımcı ekip Richard ve Lili Fini Zanuck tarafından yapıldı ve Louis J. Horvitz tarafından yönetildi. Aktör Billy Crystal, gösteriye yedinci kez ev sahipliği yaptı. İlk olarak 1990 yılında düzenlenen 62. törenin başkanlığını yapmış ve en son 1998 yılında düzenlenen 70. törenin ev sahipliğini yapmıştı. Üç hafta önce Beverly Hills'deki Regent Beverly Wilshire Oteli'nde 4 Mart'ta düzenlenen törenle, Teknik Başarı Akademi Ödülleri, ev sahibi Salma Hayek tarafından takdim edildi.

American Beauty , En İyi Film dahil beş ödül kazandı. Diğer kazananlar arasında dört ödüllü Matrix, iki ödüllü Tanrının Eseri Şeytanın Parçası ve Topsy-Turvy vardır. Annem Hakkında Her Şey, Erkekler Ağlamaz, Aklım Karıştı, King Gimp, My Mother Dreams the Satan's Disciples in New York, The Yaşlı Adam ve Deniz, Eylülde Bir Gün, Kırmızı Keman, Hayalet Süvari ve Tarzan birer ödül kazanmıştır. Televizyon yayını Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde neredeyse 47 milyon izleyici topladı.
