Richard Sennett (d. 1 Ocak 1943, Chicago), Massachusetts Teknoloji Enstitüsü ve Londra Ekonomi Okulu'nda sosyoloji profesörü, New York Üniversitesi'nde sosyal bilimler profesörüdür. New York Institute for the Humanities'in (New York Beşeri Bilimler Enstitüsü) kurucu direktörüdür.

Sennett'in sosyal bilimlere en önemli katkılarından biri, kentlerin modern dünya gerçekliği içerisinde bireysel yaşamları şekillendirişi ile ilgilidir. 2006 yılında Hegel ödülünü kazanmış, 2008 yılında ise 100.000 Euro değerindeki Düseldorf Gerda Henkel Vakfı tarafından verilen Gerda Henkel ödülüne layık görülmüştür.
Sennett, 1987'den beri sosyolog Saskia Sassen ile evlidir.
